News & Updates

Yearly Flu Shots

As your healthcare providers, we support the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendation of the annual influenza vaccination for everyone aged 6 months and older without contraindications. Vaccination is especially important for adults aged 65 and older and those with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and chronic lung disease, as these groups are at higher risk for severe flu complications.

The best time to get the flu shot is in September or October, but vaccination should continue as long as flu viruses are circulating, even into the spring. Getting vaccinated later in the season still provides protection.

Flu vaccines are safe and cannot cause the flu, as they use inactivated or recombinant virus components. Most side effects are mild, such as soreness at the injection site or fatigue.

For adults 65 and older, the CDC recommends high-dose or adjuvanted flu vaccines for better protection, but any age-appropriate flu vaccine is acceptable if these are not available
