Clear Kayak Adventures is a locally owned, family-operated transparent kayak rental company based in Waik\u012bk\u012b. What started as a grassroots idea from a lifelong ocean lover has grown into a purpose-driven business rooted in Hawaiian values, environmental responsibility, and genuine connection to place and people.

Today, the company is run by its original founder, Mitchell Miller, with support from his mother, Kimberly, who plays an active role in daily operations. Together, our \u02bbohana works hard to bring a personal touch to every experience \u2014 creating a space where exploration, education, and m\u0101lama come together, one paddle at a time.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Clear Kayak Adventures began as a simple idea: offer people a way to connect with Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s coastline that is slow, self-directed, and deeply respectful of the land and sea.<\/p>

Our founder, Mitchell, grew up with a deep love for the ocean and an even deeper frustration with the over-commercialization of Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s outdoor experiences. Rather than follow the path of noisy motors and big-group tours, he launched CKA with a different intention \u2014 to keep things small, rooted in respect, and focused on letting the ocean speak for itself.<\/p>

From the beginning, his mother Kimberly has played an essential role \u2014 bringing her own passion for nature, education, and m\u0101lama \u02bb\u0101ina into every part of the business. Whether it\u2019s answering the phone, helping customers launch, or organizing local cleanups, she\u2019s the heart of the operation.<\/p>

Today, we still operate as a small \u02bbohana-run business \u2014 and we plan to keep it that way. Our goal isn\u2019t to scale fast or go corporate. It\u2019s to offer something true to Hawai\u02bbi, something that gives more than it takes, and something that stays with you long after the paddle ends.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our fully transparent kayaks give you an unobstructed view straight into the reef, so you\u2019re not just paddling on the water \u2014 you\u2019re gliding with it. Watch reef fish dart below, honu (sea turtles) cruise past, and sunlight ripple across coral just inches beneath you. It\u2019s simple, surreal, and truly magical.<\/p>

At CKA, we hold deep respect for Native Hawaiian culture and operate with a commitment to m\u0101lama \u02bb\u0101ina (care for the land) and m\u0101lama i ke kai (care for the ocean). Every outing is grounded in both respect and joy \u2014 because we believe those things go hand in hand.<\/p>

\u201cI didn\u2019t set out to start a kayak company. I set out to reconnect with the things that matter \u2014 nature, community, simplicity \u2014 and this business became a vehicle to do just that.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A Life in the Water \u2014 A Business with Purpose<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Mitchell Miller grew up in Detroit, Michigan \u2014 or as he fondly calls it, \u201cthe ol\u2019 rusty mitten.\u201d With the Great Lakes as his backyard and a family full of fishermen, he spent his youth in and around the water: swimming, boating, and casting lines with his dad, grandfather, and cousins. What started as weekend adventures became something deeper \u2014 a lifelong reverence for nature and the belief that water connects us all.<\/p>

That early love for the outdoors shaped the values Clear Kayak Adventures is built on:
Slow down. Pay attention. Leave it better than you found it.<\/p>

Mitchell\u2019s path wasn\u2019t linear. He served on city council in South Central LA, working with HUD and community orgs on food security and sustainability. He later helped launch a digital marketing agency, worked with major brands in tech and healthcare, and eventually became a project manager in the largest nonprofit health system in the country \u2014 all before the ocean pulled him back.<\/p>

After a transformative winter surfing O\u02bbahu\u2019s North Shore, and working as a deckhand with Blue Planet Adventures and SUPDog, the North Shore\u2019s premier SUP rental provider and Dog-Surf School, he discovered his purpose. He also realized that he wasn\u2019t out to scale super fast and go corporate, or carelessly add more noise to Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s already busy coastlines.<\/p>

He wanted, instead, to create something modest but meaningful. Something with purpose. But most of all something rooted in the culture and community of O\u2019ahu.<\/p>

That seed germinated and grew and eventually became Clear Kayak Adventures \u2014 a transparent kayak rental company offering self-guided experiences that are quiet, low-impact, and deeply respectful of place. Every paddle is an invitation to reconnect with the ocean, to learn, and to leave inspired.<\/p>
